Routes to Qatar: employed professional

Employer-led for most professionals; self-sponsored executive route only for people already in Qatar.

Professionals normally enter on an authenticated employer contract, as above. Invest Qatar describes a self-sponsored Executive Residency, but it is restricted to people already living in Qatar who are nominated by their employer and earn at least QAR 50,000 or 80,000 a month depending on title. Bad news: no points or job-seeker route was found; Invest Qatar and Startup Qatar documents disagree on validity (five versus ten years) so we state neither; fees are not stated.

The routes

Each route below is a separate permit with its own listed requirements. A requirement you do not meet can stop an application for that route, however strong the rest of the case is. A requirement we cannot confirm is shown as unknown, not as a failure.

Employer-sponsored professional employment (Work contract authenticated by the Ministry of Labour; residence permit under Law No. 21 of 2015)

Preview — under verification

Employment is employer-led: the employer builds the contract in the Ministry of Labour digital system and has it authenticated. The entry-visa and residence-permit procedure itself could not be read, so its documents, fee and processing time are not published here.

Who this is for

  • Professionals, engineers, managers and specialists with a job offer from a Qatar employer

You must have every one of these

  • The employment contract must be authenticated electronically by the Ministry of Labour (bilingual contract).
  • Workers must not be charged recruitment fees or related costs, and employers may not deduct them from wages.
  • National minimum basic wage QAR 1,000 per month; if the employer does not provide housing and food, allowances of at least QAR 500 housing and QAR 300 food apply (figures as reported 2021; reviewed at least annually).
Work allowedYou work for the employer named on the authenticated contract. A worker may change employer without a No Objection Certificate by applying through the Ministry of Labour system: notice one month (two years or less with current employer) or two months (more than two years). Most workers need no exit permit; a narrow set of senior roles, capped at 5% of an institution's staff, may.

Executive Residency (self-sponsored)

Preview — under verification

Self-sponsored residency for senior executives already living in Qatar; the employer must nominate the executive through the portal, so it is not an overseas entry route.

Who this is for

  • Senior or C-level executives already resident in Qatar with a recognised employer

You must have every one of these

  • Already living in Qatar.
  • Senior executive aged 18+ with at least 5 years of senior executive experience and a direct local employment contract with a qualifying company type; monthly salary at least QAR 50,000 for Chairman, COO, CTO, CFO or CEO, or QAR 80,000 for other Executive Director titles (Startup Qatar page, no date printed).
  • Formally nominated by the current employer through the portal.
  • Residence ID valid more than three months and a stamped bank statement for the last three months.
How long it lastsNOT VERIFIED: sources conflict. Invest Qatar's Residency Programs FAQ and its Feb 2026 launch article say five years; the Jusour FAQ and Startup Qatar FAQ say ten years; the Startup Qatar page gives no number. All say renewable.Work allowedSelf-sponsored per the same FAQs, so the residence is not tied to an employer. What activity the permit allows beyond the stated route is NOT VERIFIED. (Family sponsorship is a separate question: dependent children and family can be sponsored under Ministry of Interior requirements.)
