Official sources and guides
Find the official page for what you need to do. Government pages are marked official; national agencies and tourism bodies are labelled as what they are.
Coverage: Germany has task pages; the other countries have official starting points only. It is not a directory of the whole internet, and supported languages are not recorded, so none are claimed. The evidence index below lists the sources cited by our Germany route claims.
Find an official page for your task
Germany has pages for each task. The other 12 countries are official starting points only: we have not researched their routes, and a starting point says nothing about who is eligible. Each page was opened and read on the date shown.

What we could not read (coverage gaps)
These are not linked and carry no verification date. This directory is not complete.
- Germany: the online visa application page itself (script-only), and some Bundesagentur and Make it in Germany sub-pages that failed to load.
- Kuwait: the e-visa pages. Qatar: the Ministry of Interior and Hukoomi portals (blocked to automated reading or empty).
- Scholarship, cost and housing directories for the 12 other countries: not collected yet.
Who decides on your qualification (Germany)
There is no single body. The Make it in Germany procedure page says the competent authority checks whether your foreign qualification is equivalent to a German reference occupation (the equivalence assessment, Gleichwertigkeitsprüfung), and that which authority is responsible depends on the profession. Use the official Recognition Finder to see the body for your profession.
- Nurse, doctor, teacher: the same page lists these as regulated professions, where you generally need recognition or a professional licence to work. It does not name the deciding authority for each, so we do not either. The Recognition Finder does.
- Engineer: the page we read does not mention engineers. We do not state whether engineering is regulated or which body decides. Check the Recognition Finder.
- Free advice: the page points to the Service Center for Professional Recognition (ZSBA) for free, non-binding advice.
Source: Make it in Germany, recognition procedure, read 2026-11-07. Germany only; other countries are not covered here. A recognition decision is not a visa decision.
Recognised institutions: three different questions
Keep these apart, because one does not answer the others:
- Is the institution recognised? The German Rectors' Conference portal Hochschulkompass lists higher education institutions, with filters such as institution type and type of control (for example state-approved).
- Is your degree or course recognised for your purpose? That is a separate assessment, by the competent authority above or the institution that admits you.
- Does the institution sponsor your visa? We found no statement that institutional recognition provides a visa or sponsorship. Hochschulkompass does not discuss visas. Visa rules are on the official visa pages.
We could not read the KMK anabin database (its site disallows automated reading), so we describe nothing from it. Germany only; read 2026-11-07.

Last checked 3 November 2026 (Checked this month)
Backs: European voluntary service and naturalisation; Settlement permit is not citizenship: A settlement permit is an unlimited residence title; it does not by itself grant nationality. Naturalisation under § 10 StAG needs five years of lawful habitual residence, identity and nationality clarified, sufficient German (B1 under the common framework), and supporting yourself without social benefits, with exceptions. The page does not address renouncing a previous nationality, so we say nothing on it. Residence rights can lapse on leaving, and nationality is a separate decision.: geography: National (federal law); Citizenship by naturalisation: qualifyingPeriod: Five years of lawful residence: conditions: There is no three-year fast track. The accelerated route introduced in 2024 has been repealed, and any guidance still citing three years is out of date.; German law no longer requires you to give up your previous nationality. Your own country's law may still take it away, which is the decisive question for Indian nationals in particular.

Backs: Anerkennung in Deutschland: The federal recognition portal run by BIBB. Tells you whether your profession is regulated and which authority is competent for recognition. The per-profession Recognition Finder lives here.; Occupation codes: KldB 2010 to ISCO-08 is an approximate key: The Federal Employment Agency publishes a table that converts the five-digit German classification of occupations (KldB 2010, revised 2020 version) to the four-digit international ISCO-08 unit groups, and states that such conversion keys are often not unambiguous; ambiguous cases are marked with alternatives. A matching code is therefore not proof that two jobs are equivalent. Recognition of a foreign qualification is a separate question: the federal recognition portal says recognition is necessary to work in a regulated profession (those whose activities are legally protected) and is not required for non-regulated professions, though a third-country applicant for a visa may still need it.: applicability: Anyone comparing a foreign job title with a German one: geography: National (federal law)

The treating physician completes it, the competent supreme health authority of the Land (or an authorised body) authenticates it before departure, it is valid for at most 30 days, and each drug needs its own certificate. Outside the Schengen area the agency recommends the travellers' guidelines of the International Narcotics Control Board; destination and transit countries set their own rules, and the destination country's embassy in Germany can give details. Backs: Occupation codes: KldB 2010 to ISCO-08 is an approximate key: The Federal Employment Agency publishes a table that converts the five-digit German classification of occupations (KldB 2010, revised 2020 version) to the four-digit international ISCO-08 unit groups, and states that such conversion keys are often not unambiguous; ambiguous cases are marked with alternatives.

If a title is tied to a specific job, any other employment is forbidden until the authority allows it. Employers must check the right to work, keep a copy for the length of employment and tell the Ausländerbehörde within four weeks if a job ended early where the permit came from the skilled-work chapters. Permission to work for an employer does not by itself cover freelance or foreign-employer remote work, and entry as a visitor never carries the right to work.: geography: National (federal law); Short trips to other Schengen states on a German permit: The Federal Foreign Office states that non-EU nationals who live in a Schengen state and hold a valid residence permit generally need no visa for visits to Germany of up to 90 days in any 180-day period when not taking up work.
